RTRA Gives Generously

Hurricane Katrina of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season was a powerful Atlantic hurricane. It was the costliest natural disaster, as well as one of the five deadliest hurricanes, in the history of the United States. Our own Regina Therapeutic Riding Association pledged its support in this devastating time.

Princess Anne Shows her Support for Therapeutic Riding

(Condensed from the SHF article in Showtrail - July/August 2004)

H.R.H. Princess Anne is the President of Riding for the Disabled Association in the UK.  She is also the Royal Patron of the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA).

On June 5th, 2004, Princess Anne showed her support for the Regina Therapeutic Riding Association.  She was welcomed to RTRA by Instructors Catherine Sneath and Elizabeth Travis, along with an enthusiastic group of volunteers, students and parents.

A Therapeutic riding lesson was performed demonstrating a variety of riding patterns and arm movements designed to improve balance and horsemanship skills.

Princess Anne spoke with each of the riders sharing her knowledge and passion for riding.

“A Very Special Event”

Was  the theme of the Regina Therapeutic Riding fundraiser. H.R.H. Princess Anne made an exception for the organization that is near to her heart, by also attending a  luncheon at the Hotel Saskatchewan in Regina.  The Master of Ceremonies was Darren Bonneteau, whose 11 year old son Cain has been enrolled in the riding program for 4 years.  The Guest Speaker was Heidi Martin, who with her husband Larry, founded the Regina Therapeutic Riding program in 1992.

Princess Anne then spoke about her interests in Therapeutic Riding.

The day proved to be highly successful for RTRA raising approximately $10,000 for the Association.
